Guidelines for authors

Please pay careful attention to these few guidelines in order to help us to edit and publish your submissions.

1. Manuscript

If you use foreign-language passages with your own notation systems (Greek, Hebrew, etc.) in your text, we strongly recommend that you use Unicode-compatible fonts. Otherwise we cannot ensure a correct presentation.

Please submit your article via the homepage of the journal (www.jeac.de). You can create a corresponding account yourself (https://jeac.de/ojs/index.php/jeac/user/register) in a few minutes. If you have an ORCID number, we kindly ask you to enter it in your account, as this facilitates the networking of the metadata of the publications and ensures the correct allocation of your publications to you. You can create an ORCID number yourself at https://orcid.org/.

2. Size

The maximum length for

  • an article: 45,000 characters / 7,000 words
  • Dialogue contributions: 12,000 characters / 2000 words
  • Miscellae: 15,000 characters / 2500 words
  • Reviews: 7500 characters / 1200 words

3. Abstract (only for articles)

Please submit a short summary of the content and main thesis of your article in English.

4. Text formatting

Please refrain from using justification, hyphenation, margin alignment, and small caps or blocking for emphasis; additionally, please do not set up spacing between paragraphs, etc. You can use italics for emphasis; subheadings are of course possible - but please do not format them automatically.

Please number your headings according to structure 1. / 1.1. / 1.1.1. and do not use more than three levels of headlines.

Experience has shown that many manuscripts, especially if they originated as lecture manuscripts, feature too many paragraphs. Please be economical here.

5. Citations (main text and notes)

Quotation marks „...“ are to be used for quotes from modern works and sources.

Omissions are indicated by square brackets: [...].

Please set Latin quotes in italics; Greek quotes do not need quotation marks.

 6. Bibliographic information

Please use short titles in the footnotes starting with the second mention of a text and include a bibliography.

Please ensure that all bibliographic information is complete and follow the “Citation Guidelines”

  • for German-language contributions according to “Rules for Citation” (Zitierregeln) on the page https://www.infoclio.ch/de/node/138596 (beginning approximately on the second half of the page).
  • for English-language contributions according to the SBL Handbook of Style.

When using Citavi please use

  • for German contributions the style “infoclio Deutschschweiz” (also available for Zotero) and
  • for English contributions the style “SBL Handook of Style 2nd. Ed. (Notes)”.

Both styles are available in the program “Citavi” under “Citation / Citation Styles / Change Citation Style”.

If possible, please use the bibliographic abbreviations from Siegfried Schwertner (ed.), Internationales Abkürzungsverzeichnis für Theologie und Grenzgebiete, Berlin: de Gruyter, 2013. If in doubt, please refrain from using abbreviations. This will facilitate interdisciplinary reception.

If you cite literature available on the Internet, please include the URL and the date of retrieval.

7. Metadata

Please indicate at the end of your contribution your contact details as they should appear in the issue. They will be accessible on the internet.

You are welcome to submit suggestions for about three to four keywords relevant to your contribution.

8. Copyright

If your contribution contains images or graphics of which you do not own the copyright, please obtain the permission for the open access publication in advance.
